OVERVIEW: The CBU-104 WCMD (Wind Corrected Munitions Dispenser) is an inertially guided, free-falling cluster bomb designed for attacking area targets.
DETAILS: The CBU-104 WCMD was designed to allow the accurate delivery of anti-armor and anti-personnel cluster munitions from high altitude. It is made by mating a 450 kilogram CBU-89/B with a WCMD inertial guidance kit. The WCMD corrects for winds and adverse weather, while guiding the munitions to the target coordinates. Inside the canister are 72 antitank and 22 antipersonnel mines. The minefields are used for area denial, diversion of moving ground forces, or to immobilize targets to supplement other direct attack weapons.
NOTES: Limited IOC 1998, with first operational fielding in 2000.
